_____________________________________________________________________________________________

1. What is an MP3?
2. What is an Ogg Vorbis file?
3. What is a WAV file?
4. What is FreeDB and why is it useful?
5. What happens if I have a problem using Buzzsaw?

1. What is an mp3?

An MP3 is an encoded audio file and is the most common file format for digital music. MP3
allows audio to be compressed to more than 1/10 the original size with little loss of quality.
Furthermore, MP3s can be compressed further which allow MP3s to be streamed. Popular MP3
players are WinAmp (www.winamp.com), Sonique (www.sonique.com) and iTunes (www.apple.com).
MP3 files have the .mp3 extension.

2. What is an Ogg Vorbis file?

Ogg Vorbis is an audio compression format which supports fixed and variable bitrates
from 16 to 128 kbs. Ogg Vorbis supporters claim the format features better sound quality and
has a smaller file size. It it similar to formats such as MP3 and Ogg Vorbis differes from
these formats in that it is free, open source, and unpatented. Winamp 2.8 (www.winamp.com)
now supports Ogg Vorbis. Ogg Vorbis files have the .ogg extension.

3. What is a WAV file?

A WAV file is a Waveform sound which is a standard Windows audio file format. WAV Files tend
to be huge in file size and are most commonly used as source files in projects. WAV files
have the .wav extension.

4. What is FreeDB and why is it useful?

FreeDB (www.freedb.org) is an open source online database of over 800,000 CDs. Buzzsaw CD
Ripper uses this database to retrieve artist, CD and track information. This means that When
you put a CD into your drive, Buzzsaw can (if you have selected this option) automatically
retrieve the artist, album, song and track order of the cD. Buzzsaw will name each MP3, Ogg, WMA
or WAV based on the naming options you have specified.

5. What happens if I have a problem using Buzzsaw?

Check that you have installed Buzzsaw on a platform or operating system that Buzzsaw CD
Ripper supports. Make sure that you do not have any other CD ripping or CD burning
programs running.

If you believe you have found an actual problem with with Buzzsaw, please send an email to

V. Using Buzzsaw
_____________________________________________________________________________________________

Buzzsaw CD Ripper is designed to be as hassle-free as possible. For most common encoding
sessions, simply insert the CD you wish to encode, start Buzzsaw, select the format you want
to encode to (MP3, Ogg Vorbis or WAV) and click "Encode." You can encode the whole disc or
select individual tracks you wish to encode by selecting the tracks in the display.
You can also listen to, or preview, specific tracks by right-clicking on the song title and
clicking on "Play selected track."

If you wish to change the bitrate, enable variable bitrate erncoding (VBR) or change any
quality settings you can do so by clicking on "File" then "Options." Select "General"
if you wish to set the location you want to encode to, configure how you want Buzzsaw to name
files and folders, set Buzzsaw to create folders and/or subfolders, or turn off FreeDb naming
features all together.

Select MP3 or OGG to set specific encoding options for those formats.

Once Buzzsaw starts encoding it will display its progress on the track it is presently
encoding as well as total progress. Buzzsaw will also display an abbreviaed progress report
in the Start Bar. So once you begin encoding you can minimize Buzzsaw and still monitor its
progress.

Once Buzzsaw finishes, or even as it is encoding, you can access the files it creates by
clicking on "File" then "Open Output Folder."
