Configure Server: Database

The Database tab enables you to configure Oracle Names server information in a region database or a local cache. A region database consists of tables stored in an Oracle database that are accessible by the Oracle Names server.

No Region Database

Choose if you want service registration data replicated continuously among Oracle Names servers.

Region Database

Choose if you want service registration data stored in an Oracle database. Specify the connection information so the Oracle Names server can connect to the database.

Database

Protocol
From the list, select the protocol for the address that the listener is configured to listen on. Depending on the protocol chosen, enter protocol parameter information in the fields as appropriate.

Choose to create a new protocol address. A new Address tab from which you can select the protocol and enter protocol information in the fields.
X button
Choose to remove the selected Address tab and its address information.
< button
Choose to move the protocol address up in the list order.
> button
Choose to move the protocol address down in the list order.
Advanced button
Choose to configure multiple address options, such as source routing, connect-time failover, and client load balancing.
Service Name
Enter a service name if configuring this Oracle Names server to connect to a release 8.1 database service.
SID

Enter an Oracle System Identifier (SID) if configuring this Oracle Names server to connect to a pre-release 8.1 database.
Connect Type
From the list, specify how you want the Oracle Names server to connect to region database: dedicated server, shared server (multi-threaded server), or whatever the database has been configured with.
If MTS is configured in the initialization parameter file, then select Dedicated Server to force the listener to spawn a dedicated server to bypass MTS configuration.
If MTS is configured in the initialization parameter file and you want to guarantee that this connection always uses MTS, then select Shared Server.
Use Oracle8i Release 8.0 Compatible Identification
Select this option if the database pre-release 8.1 database service.
Clear this option if you are configuring for a release 8.1 database service.
Advanced button
Choose to configure advanced CONNECT_DATA parameters.

Additional Informaton

User
Enter a valid DBA user name for the database.
Password
Enter the password for the DBA user.
Optional button
Choose to specify refresh settings for the region database.
  • Refresh from Database: Enter values in the fields of how often the Oracle Names server memory cache (not the cache checkpoint file) will be refreshed from the region database
  • Retry Interval: Enter values in the fields for the amount of time the Oracle Names server will wait after a failure to connect to the region database before trying again
  • Retry Expiration: Enter values in the fields for the amount of times to wait before terminating the retry attempt
