You can create an Oracle Names server on a node if Oracle Names was installed, and you want this node to be the Oracle Names server for the entire administrative region. This is not a function for client or Oracle database server computers.

How an Oracle Names server is created depends upon whether you want data:

• Stored in tables of an Oracle database accessible to the Oracle Names server

  This is called a region database and requires running the namesini.sql script to create the tables.

• Stored in the Oracle Names server's local cache

1. In the navigator pane, expand Net8 Configuration > Oracle Names Servers.

2. Choose plus (+) from the toolbar, or choose Edit > Create. The Names Wizard starts. The wizard guides you through the creation and configuration process.

   The creation process creates a names.ora file with information about the Oracle Names server.
