Understanding the Directory Schema

The directory schema consists of the logical structures and their governing rules that define the directory's information model. The schema is made up of attributes and object classes, with their syntax and matching rules. Object classes are groups of attributes. Attributes are information types. When creating an entry, you assign object classes that contain attributes, and then you assign data to the attributes.

The Oracle Internet Directory is shipped with a standard set of object classes, attributes, syntaxes and matching rules. You can create additional object classes and attributes, but they must use the standard syntaxes and matching rules.

To view available schema objects, select Schema Management in the Navigator pane. The schema objects appear in the right pane.
