Using Panes and Buttons

To determine the exact pane to accomplish your task, refer to Index to Tasks and Panes .

To access panes

There are a number of different ways to access panes:

To use buttons on the Tool Bar

Find the name of each button by moving your cursor over it.

Connect connects or disconnects a Directory server

Refresh updates data for objects, other than entries, stored in the database

Create displays a window in which to create new Directory objects

Create-like copies from a displayed instance of an object, such as an entry, to create a similar new object

Edit enables you to modify an object

Find Object Classes searches for object classes or attributes

Delete removes a selected object

Refresh Entry updates data for entries stored in memory to reflect changes in the database

Refresh SubTree Entries updates the children of entries stored in memory to reflect changes in the database

Drop Index removes an attribute from the cataloged index that enables the attribute to be used in a search

Search enables you to configure searches for ACPs

User Preferences enables you to configure the display of ACPs in the navigator pane, as well as entries in a search operation

Help displays the Table of Contents or Index of the online help

The buttons can be used only when certain conditions exist. When they are not available, they appear in shades of gray.

Other buttons

Each window has text buttons in the lower right corner that define operations that apply to that window only, such as Apply to save changes or Revert to remove changes. The Help button at the bottom of a window brings up help that is specific to that window.

If multiple panes appear in a window, there may be additional buttons that appear directly under each pane that apply to that pane only.
