Use this pane to search for entries by their attributes and attribute values.
Enter a DN value for the Root of the search. This is the top point of the subtree where you want the search to start. For example, the DN of the root can be the country code. If you want to limit your search to the entries in the U.S., use the country code (us) as the DN of the root.
To limit the number of entries that can be retrieved, enter a number in the Max results field. The default is 100.
Search Depth specifies the depth of the search you want to perform. It functions as an additional condition that must be satisfied by candidate entries.
Select Base to retrieve only the entry that functions as the
root of the search.
Select One Level to limit your search to entries one level
down from the root of your search.
Select Subtree to search entries within the entire subtree,
including the root of the search.
To limit the amount of time that the Directory spends searching, enter a value for Max Search Time. The default is 25 seconds. The time you select must be at least this long.
Note: If you cannot see the field in which to set this value, resize the window and enlarge the right pane, or select Tear Off from the View menu to view the search function in a secondary window.
You can add, modify, and delete search criteria that must be satisfied by candidate entries in the Search Criteria box. Search criteria are attributes and values that entries must possess to be retrieved and displayed.
Important: Search criteria are not necessarily elements of an entry's DN. Search criteria are attributes. For example, entering the RDN attribute and value as a search criterion refines the search because the RDN is always an attribute of the entry; however, entering a different element of a path for an entry would not be successful because a parent RDN is not an attribute of the entry.
Select from the first (left-most) drop list containing attributes.
Select the relationship of the value you are supplying to the value of the attribute in the entry you are seeking. For example, select Exact Match if the attribute in the entry matches the value you are supplying. For example: Enter "cn Exact Match Susie Smith" to retrieve any entry whose common name is Susie Smith.
In the right-most field in the Search Criteria box, enter the whole value (or some part of that value) for the attribute of the entry that you're searching for. For example, if you're searching for all entries that contain "Smith", then type Smith into this last field.
To add other search criteria select And, Or, or Not. For
example, if you want to search for all entries with a cn that starts
with S, but do not want any entries with sn (surname) of Smith, the
first search criterion might be cn begins with S, and the
second search criterion would be sn NOT Smith.
To modify a search criterion, type the changes into the value
box or select a different attribute or matching rule.
To delete a search criterion, highlight it and click Delete.
If you delete all the criteria, you can start over by clicking New.
When you are satisfied with your search criteria, click the Search button.
The directory entries that satisfy the search criteria appear.
