Manage Data: Net Service Names

The Net Service Names tab enables you to query for, add, remove, or load net service names into the Oracle Names server. You can add or remove one net service name reference at a time.

Action
Query
Select to query for the net service name specified in the Service Name field.
Add
Select to create a new net service name.
Remove
Select to remove a selected net service name and its address from the Addresses list box.
Load
Select to import net service names from an existing tnsnames.ora file into an Oracle Names server. Imported net service names display in the Addresses list box.
Execute button
Select to perform the net service name query, add, remove, or load operation.

Data
Service Name
Enter the net service name you are planning to query, add, or remove.
Address
From the list, select the protocol for the address that the listener is configured to listen on. Depending on the protocol chosen, enter protocol parameter information in the fields as appropriate.
+ button
Choose to create a new protocol address. A new Address tab displays from which you can select a protocol and enter protocol information in the fields.
X button
Choose to remove the selected Address tab and its address information.
< button
Choose to move the protocol address up in the list order.
> button
Choose to move the protocol address down in the list order.
Advanced button
Choose to configure multiple address options, such as source routing, connect-time failover, and client load balancing.

Service Name
Enter a service name to connect to a release 8.1 database service.
SID

Enter an Oracle System Identifier (SID) to connect to a pre-release 8.1 database.
Connect Type
From the list, specify how you want to connect to a database service: dedicated server, shared server (multi-threaded server (MTS), or whatever the database has been configured with.
If MTS is configured in the initialization parameter file, then select Dedicated Server to force the listener to spawn a dedicated server to bypass MTS configuration.
If MTS is configured in the initialization parameter file and you want to guarantee that this connection always uses MTS, then select Shared Server.
Use Oracle8i Release 8.0 Compatible Identification
Select this option if you are configuring this net service name to connect to a pre-release 8.1 database.
Clear this option if you are configuring for a release 8.1 database service.
Advanced button
Choose to configure advanced CONNECT_DATA parameters.

Load Service Names from tnsnames.ora File

Enter the location of the tnsnames.ora file, or use the Browse button to locate the tnsnames.ora file.
