Before connect descriptors for net service names or database services can be added to a directory, configuration of the directory must be completed. To configure directory and use it, you specify the following information:
Type of directory
If no Oracle Context exists under the administrative context, you are prompted to create one. Likewise, if the Oracle schema does not exist or is an older version, you are prompted to create it.
If the Oracle Context is created successfully, the currently authenticated user with the directory is added to the following groups in the directory:
OracleDBCreators (cn=OracleDBCreators,cn=OracleContext)
Being a member of OracleDBCreators enables a user to use Oracle Database Configuration Assistant to register a database service entry.
OracleNetAdmins (cn=OracleNetAdmins,cn=OracleContext)
Being a member of OracleNetAdmins enables a user to use Net8 Assistant to create, modify and delete net service names, and modify Net8 attributes of database services.
OracleSecurityAdmins (cn=OracleSecurityAdmins,cn=OracleContext)
Being a member of the OracleSecurityAdmins group gives the user full control over the Oracle Context, and such a user can perform the same operations as users who are members of both OracleDBCreators and OracleNetAdmins, as well as being able to perform additional enterprise user security operations.
To configure a directory for first-time usage:
Select Directory Service Access configuration in the Welcome page, then choose Next.
The Directory Service Access page appears.
Select Configure a directory server for Oracle features, and configure this Oracle Home to use the directory, and then choose Next.
The Directory Service Access, Directory Type page appears.
From the Directory Type list, select the correct directory type for the directory this computer will access.

Note: The procedure varies at this point, depending on whether or not Net8 Configuration Assistant is able to authenticate with the directory server, detect an Oracle schema, or locate an Oracle Context. Net8 Configuration Assistant pages and their accompanying help will guide you through the remainder of the procedure. |
