Welcome to Net8 Configuration Assistant in Custom installation mode. You can configure basic elements of the network, including:
Select this option to configure access to a LDAP-compliant directory server, if you plan to use:
Directory naming to centrally
administer connect identifiers
Select this option to create a listener with one or more protocol addresses. The listener is a process on the server that receives and responds to client connection requests for a database. Clients using connect descriptors configured with the same protocol addresses can send a connection request to the listener.

Note: This option is not available on clients. |
Select this option to configure naming methods. When an end user connects to a database service, a connect string that identifies the service through a simple name, called a connect identifier, is used. A connect identifier can be the actual name of the service or a net service name. The connect identifier is resolved to a connect descriptor, which contains the network location and identification of the service, by a naming method. You can configure this computer to resolve connect identifiers using any of the following methods:
Local naming (Local)
Additionally, if the local naming method is selected on the client, you are prompted to configure connect descriptors in a client-side tnsnames.ora file.
Select this option to configure the following:
Default network domain in the sqlnet.ora file
The computer's network domain is automatically selected as the
default domain. This domain is appended to any unqualified net
service name given in the connect string, and then compared to
net service names stored in a tnsnames.ora
file or Oracle Names server.
For example, if the client tnsnames.ora file contains a
net service name of sales.us.acme.com, the user can
enter the following connect string:
CONNECT scott/tiger@sales
sales gets searched as sales.us.acme.com.
Two net service names in the tnsnames.ora file
One net service name will automatically be established for connections to external procedures.
Net8 Configuration Assistant will prompt you to configure a net service name for a client connection to the database.
Directory access configuration
You are prompted to configure access to a directory server.
(Server Only) Two default listener protocol addresses in the listener.ora file
One address will use TCP/IP on port 1521 and the other will use IPC for client connections to the Oracle database.
