Connecting to Directory Servers

To view and modify Oracle Internet Directory information through Oracle Directory Manager, connect to an instance of an Oracle Internet Directory. You can connect to a server only if the server and database processes for the desired instance are running.

To connect:

  1. When you initially run Oracle Directory Manager, the connect dialog box appears.

  2. Type into the fields as follows:

Note: if you leave User and Password fields blank, the user defaults to Anonymous.

The Port field is automatically set when a server is configured by pressing the Server button in the Oracle Internet Directory Connect dialog box.

If you want the connection between Oracle Directory Manager and the Directory server to be SSL enabled, to enhance security, click SSL Enable. The server to which you are connecting must also be SSL enabled. This is done through the server's configuration set parameters.

For more information about SSL, see the chapter on SSL in Oracle Internet Directory Administrator's Guide.

If you choose SSL Enable, click the SSL tab and enter further information on the SSL tab page.

To connect to another server:

  1. If you are already connected to a directory server and you want to connect to another server, select Oracle Internet Directory Servers (first item in the Navigator pane).

All servers that Oracle Directory Manager knows about, whether connected or not, appear below that entry.

  2. In the Navigator pane, select a connection instance to which you are currently connected.

  3. From the File menu, select New.

The Oracle Internet Directory Connect dialog box appears.

  4. Enter information into the Connect dialog box, as described in the preceding section.
