New Entry

To define a new entry, you must:

Distinguished Name

Enter the unambiguous Distinguished Name (DN) for the new entry. The easiest way to do this is to click the Browse button to bring up a Select Distinguished Name (DN) Path: Tree View window, from which you can select the parent in the Directory Information Tree for your entry. When you click Select and click OK, the parent appears in the Distinguished Name field. Type the relative distinguished name (RDN) of the new entry in front of the parent in the Distinguished Name field to complete the distinguished name.

Otherwise you can enter the whole DN manually.

Note: If you are using an entry as a template (Create Like), you must change at least the RDN in the DN to make the new entry unique.

Object Classes

Object classes contain groups of attributes. To assign attributes to the entry, you must assign object classes. To do so, click Add in the Object Classes box.

The Super Class Selector window appears. Select the object classes from this window.

Mandatory Attributes

After you choose the object classes for the entry, the mandatory attributes appear in this tab page. Mandatory attributes must have non-null values. Enter the values for these attributes here.

Note: If you are using an entry as a template (Create Like), you must change some of the values for the attributes to make them appropriate for the new entry. At a minimum, the attribute that is the RDN must have a new value.

Optional Attributes

Optional attributes are attributes that are part of the assigned object class but which do not necessarily need to have a value for every entry. Enter values for the attributes you want in this tab page.

Note: Values can be entered in white fields only. Gray fields indicate that the value is set by the system. For example, the createTimestamp attribute has its value set by the system.

Tip: To see the characteristics and requirements of an attribute, see Browsing Attributes.
